Amanda Melton
Amanda Melton is the founder and creative force behind A Midnight Modern. With over 20 years of experience in floral and event design, Amanda has built a reputation for creating immersive, one-of-a-kind environments that feel more like art installations than traditional events.
Her background spans high-end weddings, large-scale celebrations, and deeply personal milestone moments—but her signature is consistent: intricate detail, botanical richness, and bold, emotional storytelling.
Known for seeing the unseen and designing beyond what’s expected, Amanda approaches every event as a sensory experience—layering light, texture, form, and florals to create a world within a space. She thrives at the intersection of mood and movement, always chasing the spark that turns “beautiful” into unforgettable.
When she’s not designing events, Amanda is developing custom installations, refining floral palettes, and staying inspired by architecture, fashion, and nature. She has an extensive knowledge of music and a deep appreciation for how sound, like design, can shape an experience. A passionate gardener, lifelong reader, and lover of animals, Amanda finds joy in hiking, road trips, and travel—always exploring new landscapes and ideas.
Based in San Antonio, Texas, she lives happily with her husband, their son, and two very opinionated huskies. Amanda is also a strong advocate for public education, volunteering regularly at her son’s school and serving in the PTA at both the local and council level. Her work is driven by curiosity, craftsmanship, and the belief that every detail should serve both beauty and purpose.
Behind The Blooms
A quick Q & A with Amanda
Favorite flower?
Hands down, the bearded iris. I can’t get enough of the drama, the shape, and the endless color variations. It’s moody, expressive, and a little wild—everything I love in a bloom.
What’s always playing while you design?
I’m all over the place—punk, metal, new wave, 80s pop, 90s alt, hip hop… it depends on the mood. Some days it’s all grit and guitars, other days it’s drama and soul. Bowie, The Cure, Ozzy, Florence + The Machine, Sinatra, Biggie, Deftones, The Used—they all have a place in the rotation. Music helps me tap into feeling, and that’s where the magic starts.
Dream event destination?
Anywhere with soul and story. Give me moody light, architectural texture, and a little bit of decay—an old greenhouse draped in vines, a forgotten orangerie, a cathedral steeped in history, or a castle where the walls whisper.
I’m drawn to places that feel like they’ve lived a thousand lives—ripe for transformation, yet powerful on their own.
And if Hogwarts ever needs an event designer? I’ll have my wand packed before you finish the sentence!
What inspires your designs the most?
Inspiration comes from everywhere—nature, music, architecture, movement—but it always begins with people.
Their energy. Their story. The way they see beauty, express emotion, carry history, or lean into rebellion.
I absorb it all and let it guide the mood, the materials, the textures. That’s where the magic starts—designing not just for a moment, but for a feeling that lingers.
Pet peeve in event design?
A lack of intention and cohesiveness.
I believe every element—big or small—should serve a purpose and tell part of the story. Nothing should feel random or like an afterthought. I’m all about layered details that are thoughtfully placed, emotionally resonant, and visually connected. That’s where the magic lives.
Do your fur babies help with events?
Only if judging me from the sidelines and angling for snacks counts as helping. They’re more moral support than design assistants—but they definitely keep things entertaining.
Fenway is basically a cat in a husky’s body—aloof, dramatic, and absolutely convinced she’s in charge. She demands belly rubs as payment… and judges everyone. Harshly.
Nevada is all heart—couch cuddles, new friends, and shameless affection are her love language.
Neither one arranges florals, but they’ve absolutely mastered the art of showing up in style!
